Description

No minutes have been found of the Repairs and Lettings Committee, but the first minute book in this series contains the minutes of the City Lands Committee from 22 May to 16 Nov 1837 before it became part of the Corporate Estate Committee

Administrative / biographical background

On 25 March 1836, on the recommendation of the Finance Committee, the Council appointed a committee to superintend the repair of Corporation property. On 9 May 1836 this committee was also made responsible for the lease of annual rack rents and was 1837 referred to as the Repairs and Lettings Committee. On 28 March 1837 the Council appointed a City Lands Committee and on 11 Jan. 1838 the Council merged the Repairs and Lettings Committee, the City Lands Committee and the Markets Committee into one committee called the Corporate Estate Committee

In Nov. 1877, on the recommendation of the General Purposes Committee, the Corporate Estate Committee was absorbed by the Improvement Committee
