Administrative / biographical background

The parish church of Radipole was originally dedicated to St Mary, this was later changed to St Anne's. Initially it was the mother church to St Mary's Melcombe Regis but this position was reversed in 1605. The two parishes were separated in 1926. The earlier parish registers of Radipole are found in the Melcombe Regis parish list as they passed to that church when it became the parish church. Entries for christenings 1595-1812, marriages 1560-1793 and burials 1560-1812 will be found therefore in the records of Melcombe Regis (PE/MCR: RE 1/1-9; 3/1-3
