A commentary on all the books of the Bible, by William Swalden. William Swalden (1636-1703) was the son of Richard Swalden, a citizen of London. He was educated at Merchant Taylors' School, London, and Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he was admitted in 1655. He was Vicar of Codicote, Herfordshire 1675-1703. Sion L40.2/E155. - An inscription in the hand of William Clements, Librarian of Sion College 1768-99 is found on the front cover of L40.2/E155 and repeated on a flyleaf of Sion L40.2/E161: 'These books (in 14 volumes) were written by the Reverend William Swalden who was Vicar of Codicote in Hertfordshire from 1675 to 1703; and were presented to Sion College by the Reverend Richard Wynne M.A. Rector of St. Alphage London in 1773'. A similar inscription is found in the Sion College Book of Benefactors (Sion L40.2/E64) at p. 278. Various shelf marks at Sion, the earliest C88-101. Uncatalogued at Sion College, with shelf marks L40.2a/11-24 in 1996 when transferred to Lambeth Palace Library. New shelf marks Sion L40.2/E155-168 assigned in 2014.
