Alan Cheales (born at Friskney Vicarage in 1872) was the son of the Revd Henry John Cheales (1829-1910), vicar of Friskney, and his wife Edith. Edith Cheales was the daughter of the Revd Thomas Willingham Booth (1806-1869), also vicar of Friskney, and his wife Mary Anne (nee Pacey), and grand-daughter of John Booth of Ingoldmells (1799-1854) and his wife Hannah, a sister of Sir John Franklin, the Arctic explorer.
See Maddison's Lincolnshire Pedigrees vols 1-4 (Harleian Society, vols L, Ll, Lll and LV, 1902, 1903, 1904 and 1906) for pedigrees of the Booths of Friskney and the (related families of Cheales of Hagworthingham, Franklin of Spilsby, Pacey of Boston and West Keal, and Rawnsley of Bourne. Manuscript pedigrees compiled by John Kirkby held at Lincolnshire Archives (ref Dixon 15/1) include, in addition to the above, those of the related families of Richardson of Halton Holgate and Turner of Caistor.

This collection of correspondence and other items consists mainly of letters to or from Revd Thomas Booth, vicar of Friskney 1830-1869, his parents Hannah and Thomas, his daughter Edith, and her sons Alan and Clement Cheales. It includes letters from Sir John Franklin, the Arctic explorer (MISC DON 756/1/1/1-3, 1/4/13 and 1/5/10-11).
