Gallantry Notes: MC: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during ten days of severe fighting. In charge of his guns he covered the retirement of a battalion, remaining in the open until the enemy was within fifty yards. Later he engaged a force of hostile cavalry so successfully that their attack completely failed. On the same day, he engaged an enemy field battery at long range and succeeded in neutralising their fire and covering the withdrawal of another battalion. Throughout he displayed splendid courage and coolness and set a fine example to his men.;
