Rural Water Supplies, files
The county council supervised the provision of water to country districts by rural district councils, under the Rural Water Supplies Act, 1944 and subsequent legislation. This function was discharged by the Department of Public Health Engineering which was responsible to the Water Supply and Sewerage Sub-Committee and the files which relate to individual parishes are grouped by RDC areas, with a general file on each area. They are accompanied by a copy of Piped Water Supplies by the county sanitary officer, George W. Curtis, published in 1947, which describes the water system in each district of Norfolk. In 1970 responsibility for rural water supplies was tranferred to the North West Norfolk, South Norfolk and Wisbech and District Water Boards, the Norwich Water Department and the East Anglian Water Company.
