Salt duties

John Vivian, master, and John Billing, mate of the sloop 'John and Mary' belonging to Padstow, stated that on 15 Oct. last they shipped at Liverpool 2,535 bushels, 14lbs of British fishery salt to carry to Newlyn on account of Edward Tregurtha, fish curer. Leaving Liverpool on 9 Nov. and on 15 Nov. and until 18 Nov. suffered stormy weather, the vessel taking in water. 515 bushels, 14 lbs of salt was lost: Collector of Excise to cancel bond in respect of lost salt.
