St Mark's Church, Mark Cross, was originally built in 1851 as a school. The school moved into new premises adjacent to the church in October 1872. The ecclesiastical parish was formed in 1874 from portions of the ancient parishes of Rotherfield and Wadhurst and the ecclesiastical parish of Tidebrook.
