No records of taxation, apart from game duty, are extant amongst the records of the country. A volume of hearth tax returns for the West Riding for 1672 (under the Act of 1662, 13 and 14 Ch. II c.10) acquired by the former West Riding County Library is now held by the Wakefield District Library Headquarters.
