File 42 Bahrain State Employees

The Bahrain State Employees sub-sub-series contains files related to the recruitment of European – primarily British – employees for service with the Government of Bahrain. The correspondence in the files discusses recruitment for a number of different vacancies including include police officers, doctors and nurses, educational officials, engineers and an Assistant Adviser to the Government of Bahrain. Also contained is a file that discusses leave arrangements for Charles Belgrave, Adviser to the Government of Bahrain. The majority of the correspondence in the files is between Charles Belgrave, the Political Agency in Bahrain and the Political Residency in Bushire (Bahrain after 1947). However, the files also contain some correspondence to/from applicants for the vacancies and a small number of reference letters from other third parties about these candidates. A limited amount of correspondence between British officials and members of the Āl Khalīfah family (in Arabic with English translations) is also contained in some files.
