Description (What the record is about)
-
These albums were used to identify minor control points on the ground during the 1948 survey of Great Britain carried out by the Ordnance Survey. They consist of photographs of reference points which were used as a basis for establishing the National Grid. Incidentally, they include topographical details, many of which have changed or disappeared. If this happened during the working life of the documents, the relevant photograph was crossed through and annotated with the removal date. The area covered by these albums includes much of West Glamorgan and areas immediately across the former county boundary such as Maesteg.
The albums are arranged by OS grid reference: in order to use them it is necessary to establish a four-figure grid reference for the area you are interested in.
