Administrative / biographical background

Acocks Green Council School in Westley Road was opened in 1909 by Worcestershire County Council, and was transferred to Birmingham City Council in 1911. The school consisted of Boys, Girls and Infants Departments, but in 1932 it was reorganised into Senior Mixed and Junior Mixed Departments. The Senior Mixed Department became a separate school in 1945 [see S2] and the Junior Mixed Department a Primary School at the same time.
