Gallantry Notes: 4601 C./Q./M./S. B.J. Smith, 19th Bn., M.G.C. (Acton) (LG 3 Sept. 1919).
For continuous good work during enemy offensives in 1918. He, by his personal courage, never failed to deliver ammunition and rations to all his gun teams. On one occasion, when a driver was wounded, he took the wounded man's place and delivered much needed ammunition. Subsequently it was largely due to this N.C.O.'s personality and utter disregard for personal danger that the company's teams were kept together at a very critical period. His marked soldierly ability to duty is a noble example to all ranks.;

Other Data: National Roll London VII (plus MID): He volunteered in September 1914 and after crossing to France played a conspicuous part in several important engagements. He was awarded the DCM for bravery and devotion to duty and was MID in September 1916. Demobilised in March 1919 and holds the DCM, 1914-15 Star, GS & Vic medals. 38a, Mill Hill Grove, Acton.
