These scrapbooks of newspaper cuttings and pictures were compiled by Mr. F. E. Cardwell of Northampton and Cheltenham and after his death were sold by his daughter to Mrs. Hyett who advertised their existence widely in Cheltenham and made them available to the public in return for a small donation to the Red Cross. She was able to show them to some of the survivors of the war who added notes on loose sheets of paper.
