Memos from Mr Daish to Mr Chapman: Blackburn and Wyvern aircraft

27 February: Blackburn airframe inspection completed. Pipework to engine starting system not yet fitted. Wyvern VW.868 replacement of front propeller after being repositioned on shaft completed. Check ground run carried out. Aircraft cleared too late in day to fly. 2 March: Blackburn installation work completed. Some ground running carried out in order to check the overspeed governor setting on the port unit. No flying. WyvernVW.868 no flying possible owing to very low visibility. 3 March: Blackburn. Ground running for checking of overspeed governor on port unit prior to investgating Dowty pump governor creep in flight. Instability of the governor was encountered which may necessitate reverting to the original Lucas fuel pump. Wyvern VW.868. No flying possible owing to prevailing weather conditind of low visibility. 4 March: Blackburn. Following further ground running during which the stability of the overspeed governor on the starboard Lucas fuel pump was checked, it was decided to refit the Lucas pump. No flying. Wyvern VW.868. Aircraft cleared for flight but visibility remained inadequate all day. 5 March: Blackburn. Lucas pump fitted. Aircraft ready for ground running. Wyvern VW.868. Aircraft servicable but not flown owing to unsuitable weather conditions
