The 1925 Rating and Valuation Act transferred to local authorities the duty of valuation formerly discharged by the Guardians and Overseers of the Poor under the direction of Area Assessment committees.
Following the Rating and Valuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1955, the format of the lists changed in that the volumes are divided into: Section I, entries made in the preparation of the list and in its alteration before it comes into force; Section II, subsequent alterations of the list; Section III, total values.
