Correspondence and papers of Revd. Patrick Gordon (d. 1730), mainly correspondence with, or relating to, Daniel Ernst Jablonski (1660-1741). Jablonski was court preacher to the Elector of Brandenburg in Berlin 1693-1741. His life was dedicated to Protestant union, and especially Lutheran-Reformed union, on the basis of episcopacy as represented in the Church of England. Patrick Gordon (d. 1730) was the son of Patrick Gordon (1613-1706), Professor of Hebrew at King's College, Aberdeen. He was Vicar of Shiplake, Oxfordshire, 1693-1700 (living at Reading with permission of his bishop, see f. 55v); Rector of Abberley, Worcs., 1700-23; and Vicar of Fownhope, Herefordshire, 1723-30. He was a Prebendary of Hereford Cathedral 1706-30. On his family and Scottish episcopal background, see J.
