In 1830 Charles Wille, timber merchant, Latter Parsons, stonemason and James Berry the younger of South Malling, builder conveyed a parcel of land lately part of Dobells Field abutting Bouverie Street on the east, with the use of a passage to Wellington Street, and of the roads called Waterloo Place and Norfolk Street to Henry Short, carpenter. He built four houses on it and in 1839 mortgaged them to William Langridge. On Henry Short's death in 1842 the property passed to his grandson Henry who sold to Alfred Wickens Holman, attorney's clerk, in 1844. Holman and Langridge's heirs sold in 1853 to William Polhill Kell, gent and after his death his sister sold the property in 1875 to Henry Jones.
