Description

Folio 177. Letter from Charles Wright, Clerk to the Mitford and Launditch Rural Sanitary Authority, to the Local Government Board, in reply to their letter of 15 February 1875 concerning his letter of 31 January 1874. He informs them that the sanitary authority has been unable to procure the concurrence of any other sanitary authority in the joint appointment of a medical officer of health and have therefore not taken the matter any further.
Annotated: 'In my last report on the sanitary condition of all the sanitary districts in my district, dated the 15th instant. I reported to the board that this authority had not appointed a medical officer of health, but it is right the board should know I had on the 21st of May last, I called together at the Town Hall, Lynn, the representatives of the authorities of seven sanitary districts, at which meeting they came to a unanimous vote that they would not combine for the election of one medical officer of health but they wanted to appoint such an officer and pay him the fees when they employed him. On this a correspondence with the Board arose and the Board dissented from the proposition. I now beg to advise the Board to inform this authority that there is a statutory obligation on them to make this appointment and that the Board trust they will hear from the authority that this has been done within the next month', H D Farnall. Poor Law Inspector, 23 February 1875.
Annotated: 'Write usual letter urging the appointment of a medical officer of health', 25 February 1875.

Paper Number: 12234/B/1875.

Poor Law Union Number: 302.

Counties: Norfolk.
