Description (What the record is about)
-
The dental department began in 1866 when Robert John Bell was appointed as the hospital's first dental surgeon. Unfortunately, very few of the records of this department have survived, although some of the dental surgeons' case notes can be found in the MH/T4/Kc series.
The first two registers give the name, address (no street names given unless Canterbury was the place of residence) and age of the patient, diagnosis, date of admission, dental details, how recommended and comments by the dental surgeon. The third volume gives the name, full address and age of each patient, date of admission, how recommended, the name of the dental surgeon, details of the anaesthetic and treatment.
