Description (What the record is about)
-
On 27 and 28 January 1832 the Revd Samuel Wilson Warneford conveyed an estate at Seaside, Eastbourne, to Davies Gilbert and his wife Mary Ann.
The property descended in the Gilbert family and on 30 December 1882 a piece of land on the West side of Gilbert Road (3r 31p, plan) was exchanged by Carew Davies Gilbert of Eastbourne, esq, with John Howell of Priory Mount, Hastings, gent, for a piece of marshland a little to the East (3r 31p, plan). The deed is endorsed with memoranda of the sales off of houses in Park Place as follows: 10-15 Park Place to James Hayward on 11 March 1884, 6-9 Park Place to James Hayward on 7 April 1884, 3 and 4 Park Place to Edward Albert Durrant on 11 June 1884, 1 and 2 Park Place to Samuel Deadman on 29 July 1884, 21-25 Park Place to James Hayward on 17 October 1885, and 28-30 Park Place to Isaac Hollebon on 23 September 1886. On 19 December 1887 unspecified land was sold to William Carless and John Howell the younger (6/1).
By two separate deeds of 1 April 1890 John Howell sold to James Hayward of Hailsham and Eastbourne, builder and contractor, the houses he had built at 16, 17 and 20 Park Place (plan) for £229 10s and 18 and 19 Park Place (plan) for £153 (6/2-3).
Memoranda of these two conveyances are endorsed on the exchange of 1882 (6/1), which remains in the bundle, implying that Howell retained some property in Park Place.
