Description (What the record is about)
-
Discusses genealogical questions, mainly connected to Charlotte (née Percy), second wife of George the 3rd Earl Ashburnham. Is glad to hear about the new arrangements for RG's book, which she thinks is the guide to Cyprus. She wishes that they would republish his monumental work on Byzantine art. Thinks that Dick [John Richard Bickersteth] is becoming more dull with the County Council work. Is concerned about RG's silver, in view of the condition of her own, which is discussed. Has been collecting the china, which will be used at 'our supper'; gives details of it. Has received letters from the Belgian wife of the former American ambassador in Belgium describing Belgium's recovery, and her husband left temporarily in New York, who gives a depressing picture of life there. Thinks that they must hang the drawing room pictures. Mentions the Bagot family, and regrets that so many interesting letters have been swept away. Miss W[illiams] has found that Kings Weston [Bristol] was first commandeered, and is now sold. Mrs Miles is still alive and living somewhere else.
