The Gaol Works Sub-Committee was appointed in June 1871. It consisted of a couple of members of the Estates and Buildings Committee and representatives from Borough Gaol at Winson Green, usually the Governor. The sub-committee's function was to advise on all repairs and alterations needed to be made to the Borough Gaol. The sub-committee was disbanded in April 1878, as, in accordance with the provisions of the Prison Act of 1877, the responsibility for the operation of borough prison at Winson Green became vested with the government in Westminster.
