Description

Joseph Barber (Ampthill) to Richd. How. I have preserved both thy letter & the contents of it with an inviolable secrecy .... I am very anxious for the event of thy next congress with Sukey. Pray Heav'n direct it for the best - Has just returned from monthly meeting at Pulloxhill where he has obtained a certificate for his marriage with Mercy Briggins (which he transcribes) "but realy I question whether P. [Briggins] & his wife will (at last) consent to my making my use of it ; for the concern both they & Mercy were in when I left them was greater than I ever saw before. ...
