From 1846 matters relating to sewage were dealt with by the Improvement Committee, but in Nov. 1873 a separate Sewering Committee was formed. On the recommendation of the General Purposes Committee a General Sewering Committee was appointed in Nov. 1876 to take full control of sewage in the city. No minutes have been found of the Sewering Committee from 1873 to 1876 or of the General Sewering Committee from Nov. 1876 to Nov. 1877, although their meetings are referred to in the Council minutes. The earliest surviving minutes of the General Sewering Committee date from 23 Nov. 1877. In Nov. 1935 this committee was absorbed by the Improvement Committee
