Probably commenced following the passing of reforming ordinances by the borough in 1491 - see payment in Chamberlains' account of 1491-1492 'ad nouos libros de ordinacionibus inscribendum'

i) copies of major documents relating to the government of the borough, some of them derived from older sources such as the 'golden book', forms of oaths, ordinances, and other memoranda, written c 1490 - c 1510
ii) current memoranda and copies of documents 1542 -1586, including scattered Assembly minutes 1542 and 1548 - 1550
iii) additions including forms of oaths and declarations, the statutory ones attested by signatures, c 1630 -1683
iv) (probably originally a separate volume) minutes of common councils held yearly on the feast of the decollation of St John Baptist (29 Aug.) for the election of officers (in effect, annual lists of elected officers), 1537 - 1683
