Other Data: Roll of Honour, Vol II, Sect 1, PORTRAIT : 2nd Lieut, 15 Battery MMGS, elder son of Harry Bax, 21 Park Avenue, Wood Green, London, N.(Director of Messrs Godfreys Ltd, Motor Engineers) by his wife Sarah Ann, d. of Thomas Waters, of Boughton, Kent. Born Highgate, London, 31/3/1890. Educated Higher Grade Sch Wood Green, and on leaving there entered the office of a member of the London Stock Exchange, but subsequently joined his father's firm, making a name as a long distance rider on the Scott two-stroke motor cycle, and was a recognised expert on the internal combustion engine. Joined MMGS in August 1914 after outbreak of war, being gazetted 2Lt in Sept 1915. Served with BEF in France and Flanders from Jan 1915 and was KIA Nr Ginchy 7/9/1916. Buried at Montauban.. His CO wrote " We have lost a cheery comrade and shall sadly miss him. His men adored him and would have done anything for him…..He was devoted to his work and always ready to sacrifice personal comforts at the call of duty. In action he was always cool under fire, and set a splendid example to his men." Unmarried.;

Other Notes: BAX, Second Lieutenant, GEORGE THOMAS, 15th Bty. Machine Gun Corps (Motors). Killed in action 7th September 1916. Age 27. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bax, of 21, Park Avenue, Wood Green, London. Spec. Memorial. 10.E.6. London Cemetery and Extension, Longueval - Somme, France.
NB: Headstone reads "believed to be";
