At the foot "Hote that John Home at a court lest holden at Linely by John Hockelton the 30 daie of October 1597 did shew two deades for his house and landes in the said Linley the one of them for half a yard land and a messuage paying to the Abbot at Migch' ijs and pentecost ijs. yearly and his best beast when he dyethe and for re(1)disse foure shillings and sute of court for all demand wood -- repairs his howse and wood for his fire to be delivered -- his to restare in Linleiswood and graunted also ---- score paying the second score for every tenth kept the other deeds conteynethe syxe akers of ground and a parte of a medow and paying yerely vjd at Migch' and Pentecost vjd and for reldinse xijd for all.

They present 1 black heifer value 6s. 8d. aged one year, found straying 24 June last, in custody of the bailiff. 2 wethers (white) and 2 rame (white) value 8s. found straying 24 June last, in custody of the bailiff.

They present on oath of John Howells that in August last he found 7 cows doing damage in a place called le Halgh and wanted to impound them; Thomas Kempsey gentleman rescued them by force, in mercy 12d.

They present on oath of John Spenser that Eleanor wife of Peter Spenser in August last put hemp in Le Ryver of Lynley, against the statute.

They present on oath of Oliver Gethin that the roof of his house is insufficient, viz le thache, in mercy 2d., given till next great court to repair, penalty 10s.

They present that John Nichlas in a corner of his meadow called Smalbrooke William Colline in a place called Smalebrook, and John Howells in a place called Smalbrook stopped with hedges a certain usual way to carry the tenants sheaves and other necessaries, leading from Lynley to the hadland of Thomas Whome next Smalebrook, in mercy 2d. each.

They present that the tenants had and ought to have a certain usual way for all carriages, leading from Lynley to brooke; ordered by the steward with the assent of the jurors that Oliver Gethin shall repair the way through his lands viz from the place called le Brookes Yat to the end of his land before 1 August bext; William ap Gruff (12d.) and Oliver Gethin (12d.) estop the same way with hedges in a place called le newe leasowe between le brookes yate and le blacke brooke, in mercy

Homage present that Homffrey Homes has made default of suit, in mercy 12d. that Ma thew Lloyd gentleman, John ap Evan and other inhabitants of Mucklewick have kept from the lord an annual rent of 16d. arising from certain lands held of the lord, for the space of 30 years They present that Oliver Gethin a tenant for life of a messuage, died since the last court, heriot 2 axon value £5 6s. 8d., in custody of the bailiff. John ap Griffith late tenant for life of a moiety of a mill and divers lands and tenements within the manor alienated his estate to Thomas Russell and David Spencer, for which alienation there falls to the lord one horse value 40s., being the beet beast, as heriot. They present one black sheep, a stray in the custody of John Weaver. Bailiff ordered to make proclamation.

The jurors ordered to see the place before the next court and then certify the steward.

They present that Richard Mounford does not keep the brook called Smalebrooke in its right course but by neglect of Richard, the stream floods to the great hurt of the lord and tenants and the queen's liege subjects, against the order, penalty 10s.

The jury ordered under penalty of 12d. each to see the place before the feast of St. Luke next, where it ought to be repaired, Richard Mounford to repair it before All Saints next, under double penalty.

They present that William ap Griffiths took and carried away a trunk of a tree in a place called Cribbin hedge, near his close, in mercy 2d.

They present that Lowis Edwardes cut and carried away an oak growing in his own nature, without licence, in mercy 2s. 6d.

They present that he also cut another tree growing in his own pasture, without licence, in mercy 2d.

And because the lord, at the request of the steward, pardoned the said offences by William ap Gruff, Lewis Edwardes, John Collins, David Spencer and Thomas Davies in their own closes and pastures which they held on lease of the lord, it was ordered by the steward with the consent of the tenants that no tenant who holds for life or a term of years or at will shall in future out or lep any tree or trees --- in his own closes or pastures or in the hedges of the same, for any estovers, without licence of the lord or his bailiff, unless he may by virtue of his lease. It is ordered that at the next court he shall show the steward his lease by which that privilege may be vindicated further Penalty 40s.

He also took a cart load of firewood before cut down out of radlwy and the newe leasowe at the came time 2s; and also cut and carried away "tow clert poules" in March last cut of the new leasow and 2 cartloads of ghorst out of radley the same month 12d.

Ordered with assent of the whole homage and the rest, John Nicholas only excepted, that none of the tenants or inhabitants of Linley shall keep or put into any of the common fields there sown with corn or grain any beasts or cattle after the feast day of St. John Baptist until the Saturday after all the corn and grain shall be taken out of the same; the same Saturday or at any time after for one month, none of the tenants or inhabitants shall put into any such field any more cattle (swine and geese only excepted) than according to the rate and quantity of land which the same tenant shall have in the field, that is to say for every two bushell seedness one oxe or cow, and that no tenant or inhabitant shall wilfully or maliciously suffer his corn or grain to remain in the field any longer than in necessary - default 12d. 2 persons shall be chosen at the court yearly by the homage for estimating the rating of every mans lands in every such field.
