Noted good order and discipline.

Female bridewell nearly complete and to be occupied before end of the year.

Governor's report.

He stated that he had applied to several local authorities for cost of maintaining prisoners committed to county prisons and submitted replies received.

Female bridewell not completed due to the few carpenters and masons he had been able to select from amongst the prisoners.

Chaplain's report

Reported established "dietary" and extreme cleanliness resulted in not a single case of dangerous sickness among 738 persons committed of whom 14 were in solitary confinement. In 1832 32 convicts transported and sent to the hulks and in 1833, 33.

A selection from liturgy and a chapter from bible read every morning to prisoners assembled in gaol chapel. Regular services held. On every occasion "the whole congregation was very orderly and attentive." Sunday school continued for juvenile offenders many of whom, "especially parish apprentices are... in a lamentable state of ignorance".

Surgeon's report

Prisoners generally healthy, except during May when influenza prevailed. 144 cases of sickness during the year, only 5 at one time in the infirmary and no deaths. Mainly disease was amongst the vagrants.

Also indicted for stealing various clothing, property of John Tellam, and other clothing property of Richard Lean, also from Henry Tonkin, and from William Carbis and from Francis Goldsworthy. Previously convicted of felony: transported for 14 years.

Daniel Champion, jun. of Marazion, lab., and John Bell of Breage, lab. indicted for stealing various coins, property of John Hobbard: D.C. had been previously convicted of felony so transported for 7 years. J.B. received six months' hard labour in Bodmin gaol, then private whipping.

Continued appeal by Penzance against order of 14 June 1832 for removal of Richard Miners, lab., Elizabeth his wife, and their six children Elizabeth, Richard, George, Mary Ann Trewannack, Ellen Caroline, and William Henry from Mawgan in Meneage, Stated that R.M. sen,. [written in pencil:- "being then settled in the town of Penzance] entered into a contract with George Reynolds, a tenant, in Aug 1830. Copy of contract dated 5 Aug. 1830, giving details of agreement relating to public house at Portreath, in Illogan. Witnesses were John Trewannack, John Edmonds, Rich. Miners, Geo. Reynolds and Juliana Reynolds. Furniture valued and on 6 Oct. 1830 Miners took possession of public house and lived there until 1 Aug. 1831 when he was sent to prison for debt. On 7 Sep. he was discharged, having become bankrupt on 31 Aug. previous, when he returned to his wife and family at the public house, continuing to live there until 10 Dec. A copy of accounts "Dr. Mr. Richard Miners in account with George Reynolds" follows. Items mentioned include Furniture, beers and spirits, garden plants, tobacco licence, box of pipes etc. Eventually assignees under Miners' bankruptcy sold the whole estate and furniture for £213: order confirmed. Penzance to pay Mawgan in Meneage £5 costs.
