Description

From: Walter son of Peter Belle To: the prior and convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory The whole of his inheritance ('hereditas') in the vill (villa) of Farningham ('Freningeham'), consisting of ½ an acre of land lying in the field called 'stene' between the land of the rector ('parsona') of Farningham and the land of John son of Wibarn and ½ an acre which lies with the churchyard ('cimeterium') to south. Also a payment of 32d, payable by the rector of Farningham, Robert the Lombard ('Lumbardus'), Geoffrey Walter's brother, Richard Kebel, Alice, Walter's sister and Alfred the long ('Alwredus Longus'). Payable as specified for part of the ½ acre to east ('hest'), part of the same ½ acre to west, the messuage which lies next to the messuage of Robert Lumbardus, the messuage which lies between Geoffrey's messuage and the messuage of Richard Kecbel, Richard Kebel's messuage, Alice's messuage, the messuage which lies between Alice's messuage and the churchyard of Farningham, and Alfred the long's tenement in exchange for part of the churchyard. For an annual payment of ½d, payable as specified on the same tenement. Also for payments of 32d to the lords of the estate ('fundus'), 2 hens and 20 eggs to Walter de Ros and 6d to John son of Wibarn. For this the priory has also paid 60s as a gersum fine. The grant is made to the use of the poor [presumably the priory's almonry]. No date. [Date: handwriting.] Witnesses: Walter de Ros; Walter de Ros; Alan de Lega; William Gernun; William of Fawkham ('Falkeham'); Ralph of Chimhams ('Chimham'); John son of Wibarn; Adam son of Hosanna; Robert, brother of Adam son of Hosanna; Henry the clerk; Nicholas the clerk Endorsed with descriptions, 'Sciant' and note of registration in late 13th cent cent hands.
