1226. Navy Steamer Columbia (RP & RQ). Oct., Nov. 1831, Apr., May, Dec. 1832, Jan. 1833, Aug. 1839. 13 items.
Two 50 horse power side lever boat engines, with 39½ inch cylinders, 3½ foot strokes.

Plan of the sleepers etc. - drawing made in the London office; cross-section of the boat and engines, plan of the engine deck beams and longitudinal section of the engine room - reverse drawings made in the London office; feed valve box - partially coloured drawing.
Drawings used for both Columbia and Tartarus: front of boiler and scheme for feeding box - partially coloured reverse drawing made in Oct. 1831 but marked "not so executed, see order for Navy No. 7 RP & RQ 50's 13 Jan. 1832"; sketch of boiler plates (also used for Carron and Pluto); paddle wheel and shaft and cranks, hot water pump and valve box - coloured original and coloured reverse drawings; emptying pipes and cocks - partially coloured reverse drawing made in the London office. The paddle wheel, hot water pump and emptying pipe drawings bear letter codes.

For H. M. Navy. According to the Catalogue of Old Engines, Columbia was a survey ship and also used for packet services to the Mediterranean. She was initially referred to as "Navy No. 7", and her drawings were kept in the same book as those for Tartarus [see Portfolio 5/1227]. She was sold in 1859.
