The company was founded in 1848 by Captain George Peacock, and the Peacock and Buchan factory set up in Mousehole Lane, Shirley (now Oakley Road) for the manufacture of anti-fouling paints. The company merged with Sealocrete in the mid 1960s, then later became Amtred Ltd
