Description

Aircraft at Bitteswell: No flying was possible due to extensive fog. Canberra WD.933 (AS Sa.115/119) Flight checks will commence next week. Sapphire/Lancastrian VM.733 (AS Sa.99/98) Fifth stage bearing cooling has been re-introduced and the ground check completed. Sapphire/Meteor WA.820 (AS Sa.105/108) The second nacelle cooling scheme i.e. blanket and shroud is being refitted. Blackburn WB.797 (DM.209) A synchroniser was fitted to the port engine in order that governor creep on the Dowty pump could be checked. Lancastrian SW.342 (Viper & Mamba) Viper ASV.5 was received on Tuesday. To date the statimeters and the new control lonkage have been fitted and the engine installation should be completed during next week. Other aircraft: Javelin WD.808 (Sa.116/117) Moreton valence: Flying time for week 1 hour 8 minutes. Javelin WB.827 (Sa.124/126) Moreton valence: First flown on Saturday. OK. Hunter WB.202 (Sa.123) Dunsfold: Flying time for week 2 hours 20 minutes. Victor WB.771 ( Sa.121/122/125/133) Radlett: The aircraft was flown once from Radlett and has now been grounded for airframe modifications. All engines have been removed for inspection of the engine bays. Gannet VR.546 (DM.214) During on flight the pilot reported engine stall, on the port unit, when trying to establish the exact point of changeover on the throttle quadrant. The engine shut down immediately, but was restarted before the aircraft landed and gave no further trouble. Gannet WE.488 (DM.205) Extensive ground running has been carried out to investigate engine bay temperatures with the forward facing louvres blanked off. Wyvern VZ.749 (ASP.175) Moreton valence: ASP.175 has been removed for investigation of excessive gas leakage rom the turbine manifold. ASP.223 is now beimg installed and modified to CU.24 standard. Apollo VX.220 Boscombe Down: The aircraft was flown to Stanstead on monday. Flying time for all Single Mamba engines to date 3148 hours 45 minutes
