Description (What the record is about)
-
Plans, sections and elevations of chancels of parish churches. ; The plans rarely identify the county or diocese in which the chancel lies and as resources currently only allow for transcribing the title as written, caution should be taken with common place names. Many of the plans in this series are undated or unattributed to an architect. However, the identity of the architect can often be found in the correspondence file relating to chancel repairs for the relevant church (otherwise known as the Five Figure series, ECE//7/1). Some chancel plans in fact still remain in the files. It is not clear why some were separated into a different series, although it may simply be based on the size of the plan. ; Many of the plans in this series have yet to be conserved and cannot be fully catalogued until they have been. Although this material is currently unfit for production in the reading room, they are listed here so that researchers are aware of the full scope of the series. Readers should contact the Library for advice if they are interested in material marked as 'Awaiting conservation' or which has 'Uncatalogued' in the description field.
