Mr. Harrison's grandfather, Bernard Harrison, was a cobbler with his own shop at Winton. The family is basically from the Eccles area and there was a tradition that the eldest son was named 'Bernard'.
Mr. Harrison's father, Bernard Harrison was employed by the Post Office and was in charge of foreign mail and later in charge of Newton Street Post Office.
Mr. Harrison's uncle, Lawrence Harrison was a postman in Manchester but moved to St. Annes on Sea where he continued to be employed as a postman, while his wife, Mary ran a boarding house. Mr. Harrison spent a number of holidays with them.
The Harriosn family lived at Grasmere Crescent, Winton and included Mr. Harrison's younger brothers Dunstan and Edmund. From there the family moved to Beech Range, Levenshulme and then to Victoria Road, Levenshulme, from where the brothers attended St. Mary's R.C. School.
Mr. Dunstan Harrison went on to St. Bede's College and became a Chartered Accountant with Messrs. Peat, Marwich, Mitchell in London later entering a partnership at Bath, where he now lives. He has two daughters and a son by his first wife (Doreen) and by his second wife ( ).
Mr. Edmund Harrison worked in a tax office in Manchester before moving to London to become a Senior Civil Servant with the Ministry of Agriculture and fisheries. He married a girl from Germany.
Mr. Harrison attended Openshaw Junior Technical School after St. Marys. He married Grace Hendstock at Our Lady of the Perpetual Succour, Moss Side on the 3rd September 1954, and has lived at his present address since 1957, before which he lived with the Hendstock family for a short period.
Mr. and Mrs. Harrison have two sons, Bernard David Harrison (born 1957), and Paul Harrison (born 1960). Mr. Harrison worked for the Fairey Aviation Company making Halifax aircraft before joining the R.A,F. in which he served from to . After the war he built up his own business as an engineers pattern maker at Cale Green.
