The letters are from the son of the Revd. F.C. Bland, vicar of Milland, and are addressed to his father and mother and his two sisters Nesta and Ursula. They give an almost complete narrative of his service with the Royal Engineers (Hampshire Regiment, 11th Service Battalion): first during training at Moore Park Camp, Kilworth, Fermoy, N. Ireland and then with the B.E.F. in Picardy. He was killed on the Somme in September 1916
