Administrative / biographical background (Historical or biographical information about the creator of the record and the context of its creation)
-
The Fylde was originally served by Methodist ministers from Preston but was included in the new Garstang Wesleyan Circuit in 1811. This was known as the Blackpool and Garstang Wesleyan Circuit between 1855 and 1865. In 1866 Blackpool Wesleyan Circuit was created, taking in the Blackpool, Fleetwood, Poulton and Lytham areas; Lytham broke away into its own circuit in 1883. Meanwhile the Primitive and United Methodists had their own circuits until 1934.
In 1934 (after Methodist Union in 1932) Blackpool was split into three circuits: Fleetwood, Blackpool North and Blackpool South. That situation continues today (1989).
