Administrative / biographical background

Holy Trinity, Lamorbey has its origins in a chapel of ease built in 1840 to serve the growing population in the southern part of the Parish of St Mary's, Bexley. Its patron and principle benefactor was John Malcolm, owner of Lamorbey, a country house, which now forms part of Rose Bruford College. A further expansion of the local population took place following the opening of the Dartford Loop railway line in 1865. The existing chapel proved to be too small and in 1879 work began on a new church, completed and dedicated the following year. At the same time the ecclesiastical district of Holy trinity, Lamorbey was erected into a parish in its own right.
