McLean, (born 1918) had already deposited some photos with us because of a connection between her father's farm and the Clarion Cycle Club. Her father used to farm 5 acres where the Clarion had their clubhouse on Outwood Rd., Heald Green. He was Peter Adshead and his family had farmed Elm Tree farm since the 1760s. Elm Tree farm was 120 acres, and had originally been called Coxton (or Cockson) Hall. The farm was compulsorily purchased by Manchester Corporation in the late 1940s. Wythenshawe Civic centre is now built on the land. Part of is actually called the Birtles after the name of one of the fields.
