This collection consists of that part of Messrs Sitwell, Money and Murdoch's records relating to Devon, and covers properties in several North Devon parishes, in particular West Down, Mortehoe, Northam and Bideford.
The family papers - settlements and wills - relate mainly to the Christmas family of Waterford, Ireland, and Barnstaple, and to the Smiths of Bideford. Philip Protheroe Smith joined the firm in Truro in 1835, and it was through him that these records came into the firm's hands.
