Description (What the record is about)
-
This almost unbroken run of letters received by AAGW and MW covers the greater part of AAGW's long life. The letters came from friends, relations, former pupils and others, with AAGW's three sons (all of whom attended Crypt School and Cambridge University and became scientists) featuring particularly prominently. Their letters describe life at Cambridge, in the armed services, in their scientific occupations and in their family homes, and they include accounts of war-time Birmingham, where Arthur was a part-time volunteer in the fire service
Between 1987 and 1989, Mr Roger Whitehouse sorted most of the letters into five-yearly groups, each of which he placed into large envelopes on which he noted the names of the correspondents featuring in the group. This arrangement has been retained
