The donor, then Elizabeth Lea, was born in 1924 in Albion Street, Miles Platting, Manchester. Her father, Harry Thompson Lea (born in c.1892) was a cleaner at a transport depot. He had been brought up by his elder brother Frank, after his own mother died in c.1900 in the flu epidemic. The donor's mother was Elizabeth Portlock, who died at a relatively early age in 1942.
