These additional letters and papers were most kindly deposited in the Brotherton Library by Mrs S. Laville of West Malvern in January 1993, in continuation of her previous deposit made in 1989 (MSDep1989/1).

Administrative / biographical background

The Pearson family has had a very distinguished record of service in the Royal Navy and in the medical profession, the two often being combined, as the longest item in this collection of additional materials shows - the diary of Christopher Pearson, V while serving as a surgeon on H.M.S. Invincible and other ships mainly in the Mediterranean between 1883 and 1895.
