A Local Board for the parish of Littlehampton was formed in 1853 under the Local Government Act, 1848. It was succeeded in January 1895 by the Littlehampton U.D.C., under the terms of the Local Government Act, 1894.
By a Local Government Board Order, which came into operation on 1st April, 1901, part of the civil parish of Lyminster was constituted the civil parish of Wick, and added to the Urban District. (For a map, see UD/LH/15/2/1 below.)
By the West Sussex Review Order, 1933, parts of Rustington and Climping parishes were added to the Urban District. (For a map, see County Council records, ref. : CC 742).
