Description (What the record is about)

The Finance section of the Social Services Department acts as receiver for a small number of people in long-stay mental hospitals who have no immediate family to act in this capacity for them. In many cases the documents received by the department in connection with this function have not been claimed after the death of the person concerned, and the more interesting items have been selected for permanent preservation. In a few cases, the person to whom documents related cannot now be identified, and these are listed at the end.
