A Race Committee was established by the Council on 8 Feb. 1888 to decide whether the Corporation should continue to control racing on the Roodee or to lease the Roodee for this purpose under Section 188 of the Chester Improvement Act of 1884. The first meeting of this committee was held on 25 May 1888 and the minutes from 25 May 1888 to 30 April 1891 are contained in the Special Committee minute books, CCB/38, but from 28 May 1891 the minutes are recorded in a separate volume. The name of the committee was changed to the Racecourse Committee in Nov. 1889. The committee decided in favour of leasing the Roodee for racing and the present Chester Race Company was incorporated in 1892. The last meeting of this committee was held on 6 March 1902
