Administrative / biographical background

Trading as 'N L Hayes Metal Co Ltd' at 'The Quay', Gloucester, this ferrous and non-ferrous metal merchants was bought by The Wolverhampton Metal Company Ltd in 1949 and continued to trade under its own name. In addition to handling scrap, this business carried out demolition of factories, power stations etc, also ships machinery and fittings. Mr Hayes was well known in the West Country and continued to place his services at the disposal of The Wolverhampton Metal Company Ltd during their salvaging of HMS Warspite.
