Description

First farm: Fisher to Lawson for £70, 1658.

Second farm: Birkett to Clementson in trust for Bank(s), thence sold by Banks' executor Pearson to the Rev. John Waite in trust for Wilfrid Lawson in 1792 for £210, 1773-1792.

Third farm: Enfranchisement to Pearson 1810, thence ('twas surmised) Rev. Isaac Fearon by 1814.

Customary bargain and sale for £70 (Leonard Fisher of Isel Gate, yeo., and Judith his wife, to George Lawson of Isel Hall, gent.) - house, land, or farmhold at Isel Gate (Manor of Isel), rent 9s. 0d., "And all and Singular Estate right title Interest and Tennant right therein"; no garths or tofts mentioned, 1658"

Second farm:

Customary bargain and sale for £170. 1s.0d. (Bartholomew Birkett of "Welch Pool" [Welshpool] in Montgomery, gent., Thomas Pearson of Isel gate, gent., Thomas Stagg of Isel Old Park, gent., to Wilfrid Clementson of Sunderland [p. Isel] butcher) and release of her customary right of dower by Jane Birkett late of Isel Gate, widow of George Birkett, for £30 more; - reciting recent auction this year by the above Pearson and Stagg as the said Bartholomew's attorneys, wherein they sold for £170. 1s.0d. to Robert Bank [spelling sic] the customary messuage dwelling house or tenement and close adjoining same, rents 2s.4d. and 8d. greenhew, "with the Parcel of Ground called the Improvement to the said Close belonging", rent 1d., "which said Premises are Commonly Called Isell Gate aforesaid", in "the Manor of Isell Isell Gate" [sic], "To hold According to the Custom of the Said Manor"; no garths or tofts mentioned, 1773

Customary bargain and sale for £210 (Wilfrid Clementson [now] of Parton [p. Moresby], butcher, to the Rev. John Waite of Brayton in trust for Wilfrid Lawson of Brayton Esq., with Thomas Pearson of Isel Gate, yeo., second party as surviving Executor of the late Robert Banks formerly of Isel and late of Harrington Harbour p. Harrington, tailor, deceased) - reciting from the above conveyance of 11 Nov. 1773, and that Robert Banks died on 28 Feb. 1792, leaving as sole executor his brother-in-law Thomas Pearson (his other executor Joseph Fell of Bewaldeth, yeo., having predeceased him) - description and rents as before ("Manor of Isell Isell Gate"), 1792

Third farm:

Enfranchisement for £81. 8s. 4d. to Thomas Pearson of Isel Gate yeoman - customary house and land ("Manor of Isell Blindcrake"), rents 6s. 8d. and 8d. greenhew; timber, minerals, and sport reserved; printed on parchment, 1810

Contemporary copy of will 1813 of the Rev. Isaac Fearon - lands at Lealholm p. Danby, Yorks [N. Riding], and at Isel Gate p. Isel (in margin, "How did Isaac Fearon become entitled to the property? Was he the heir at Law of Thomas Pearson to whom it was Enfranchised in 1810?"); endorsed "Wardell jun., Whitby", [solicitor]; probate was at York Prerogative Court, 1814, 1814

Seignory of the Manor of Isel itself:

Lease and release for 5s.0d. (Sir Gilfrid Lawson to the Rev. John Waite, both of Brayton) - reciting that the late Miss Elizabeth Lawson, Lady of the Manor, left the lordship of the manor to her uncle Sir John Mordaunt, K.B., for life, and on his death to Sir Gilfrid Lawson; that Sir John died, and Sir Gilfrid duly became lord, on 23 Oct. 1780; that during her lifetime and Sir John's, Sir Gilfrid had bought various customary estates in the Manor of Isel, and now for various (unspecified) reasons wishes to "dispose" of them; - conveys the lordship of the manor to the Rev. John Waite for the lifetime of Sir Gilfrid, for 5s. 0d.; reserves to Sir Gilfrid the customary rents and servies, 1785
