Description (What the record is about)
-
Six loose prints accompanied by a typed account of the subjects: 'These photographs are, in all probability, of a Cavalry Regiment of the regular Indian Army, as opposed to a State Cavalry Regiment. Some of the features which make this evident are the medals, the make of the rifles and the special dress band with the Regimental colours, worn across the turban of the Havildars and various Sawars [Sowars]. These pictures are of a pre-1914 Regiment, evidence for which can be found in the rifles which have the extended barrel of the Lee-Mitford and which were in prior us[e] to the Enfield rifle which was introduced after 1914. The regiment is a Mixed Class Regiment, comprising Sikhs, Pathans, Jats and Punjabi Mussalmans'. The photographer's blind-stamp is in the bottom right of the prints.
