The accounts of 72 commercial gas companies were deposited with the clerk of the peace in conformity with parliamentary standing orders. Eighteen of these are represented by single returns only, but 24 have returns covering more than thirty years. Holmfirth, Pudsey, Sheffield and Wakefield gas companies deposited accounts from the 1840s to 1917 (QE24/32, 55, 63, and 70)
